Women Leaders in Sports Podcast

Jul 8, 2018

Our guest today is the calm, cool, and collected director of athletics at George Washington University, Tanya Vogel.

Tanya is “wired to be at GW,” she says, and that’s obvious when you hear her long journey at her alma mater: she started as an undergrad soccer star, and because of her incredible four seasons, she landed a spot as the first women’s soccer player in the GW Hall of Fame. After a few coaching gigs at Colgate, Cornell, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she came back to GW to take the head women’s soccer coaching job, a position she held for 12 years. She then took off the cleats, put on a blazer, and pivoted into administration—which, after a few years away, eventually led to her being tapped for the athletic director back at GW earlier this year.

In this chat, you’ll learn what “big, hairy audacious goals are” in Tanya’s eyes, and how she’s always striving to make decisions based on values and convictions—which is one of the many reasons we all respect Tanya so much.
