In today’s episode, Patti Phillips sit down with Lisa Campos,
who was named Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and
Athletics Director at the University of Texas, San Antonio on
November 17! When we recorded this, she hadn’t yet made the jump to
her new, exciting job, so you’ll hear references to her previous
position as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at
Northern Arizona University.
Lisa’s career journey is so interesting: She is a first-generation
college graduate, and after grad school, she took a job in student
affairs, as the assistant dean of students at the University of
Texas at El Paso. It was during a fateful 4:25 a.m. run with a
friend that Lisa heard about a job in the athletics department at
El Paso, and she officially made the transition to athletics
administration. Fast forward to 2012, when at the ripe age of 35,
she landed the top seat at Northern Arizona—at the time she was the
youngest female AD at a Division I institution. And now, she’s at
the top seat at UTSA, a DI-FBS institution. Incredible!
